Business Coordinating Council

The Business Coordinating Council was founded in Mexico in 1976 as a response to the national productive sector due to the growing intervention of the government in the economy, with the purpose of regulating the actions of the different productive sectors to increase the competitiveness of companies. It is an autonomous body that represents that sector in both the economic and political environment.

The objective of this council is to be in charge of coordinating the different actions and policies that organizations implement to identify strategic positions for all specific solutions. This management contributes to the design of public policies, which increases its competitiveness and growth in the economy.

  • The responsibility of the council focuses on generating better and greater numbers of formal jobs, trying to ensure that wealth is distributed correctly through a real salary, an action that ensures the business environment.
  • The council’s commitment is to maintain interaction with the different business actors, thereby achieving a more competitive national economy.
  • The obligation of this organization is to be a facilitator of the construction of consensus and agreements between companies, in order to promote public policies that can be favorable for the joint performance of the organizations.
  • The vision of this council, in association with the various organizations, is to do and create, transform, invest and build.

History and development of the Business Coordinating Council


The trigger for the creation of this council was the unity of the businessmen against the verbal attacks of Luis Echeverría, which began in May 1975, which according to the businessmen was a clear representation of danger for the interests of both the property of company as well as private property.

Due to the situation and through a meeting, the businessmen made the decision to promote a campaign with the firm purpose of achieving a more positive vision of the private sector, whose orientation was public knowledge of all the conditions in which the business unit had a place. .

The council began to be formalized due to the initiative of the Business Men’s Council, which was made up of a group known as The Thirty, who made up the leadership of the sector at that time. The council in question made public, in an official speech, its purpose of achieving an increase in the capacity for negotiation and pressure before the power of the Government.

This council criticized the expansion of state companies and parastatals within the industrial sector and emphasized that the State was determined to intervene as an entrepreneur, a situation that represented a high level of risk in the exercise of individual rights, pointing out in a tangent that state companies had to be sold or resold to private investors.

After being established, the council began to implement measures to promote full democracy, equity in opportunities for the nation, the free market, and social responsibility, according to its official publications.

Later, its favor was strengthened with the connection of professional institutions such as the Private Sector Studies Commission for Sustainable Development, the Entrepreneurship Foundation in Mexico, AC and the Center for Economic Studies of the Private Sector.

In the coming years, the council created a code of good practices aimed at mitigating corruption, which is applied both to the companies that constitute it or not, as well as to the people who have a relationship with them, with the purpose of proposing to the national companies, without discriminating based on their social objective or whether or not they are listed on the stock market.
